Range Rider Service Area
|
The Colorado Range Rider Youth Corps is one of ten youth
corps serving Colorado. The Range Riders represent the most
geographical area, as well as the most dispersed population in the state.
The CRR territory includes the 16 easternmost counties of Colorado:
Sedgwick, Phillips, Logan, Morgan, Washington, Yuma, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln,
Cheyenne, Kiowa, Crowley, Otero, Bent, Prowers, and Baca.
This area is large, spacious, agricultural, and rural. It is steeped in the history of the pioneer and the homesteader, and is characterized by its close knit communities, wide open spaces, and penchant for hard work and hospitality. This prairie region represents nearly one-third of the area of the state of Colorado, yet its population is less than 160,000. While the population of this region is different than many served by Youth Corps in the state, many of the challenges facing youth are not. For that reason, the CRR was established as a "circuit rider" model - serving many communities that would not otherwise be served - and providing opportunities for young people to gain work experience, education, a love of service, and a better grasp of the beauty to be found in their unique environment. |
